KITCHEN BANDS Anything can become an instrument when you use a little imagination. Today we created a kitchen band using a variety of pots, pans and utensils. By making noise with a variety of instruments, children could make comparisons and hear us use descriptive language to talk about the noises.

PAINTING EXPERIMENTS: UTENSILS Painting for young children is more than just an opportunity for art - it is a chance to experiment, investigate, and explore. Children are experimented with cause and effect as they painted on different surfaces. As children use different tools and paints, they can see how each interacts with the materials they are painting on. Today, children painted using utensils

Dots on Paper: Children gain a sense of independence and self-confidence as they help in the classroom. After engaging with art experiences, they practice self-help skills by taking proper care of their art materials as they clean up. At home, you can encourage your child to return art supplies to baskets or storage containers where they belong! Observation & Reflection

Manipulative Line-Up: Many children enjoy arranging or lining up materials in a certain way. Though this may seem like a simple way to play, this promotes persistence as children follow through on a task, visual-spatial awareness, and helps develop hand-eye coordination. The way children choose to line up objects also demonstrates inventiveness in thinking.

Pass the Beanbag: Using a beanbag we have been working on passing from one person to another. It may sound simple, but passing requires that children not only coordinate their movements, but pay attention to the movements of others. To teach this, we remind children to pass gently with two hands and to make sure the other person is watching. Passing experiences also encourage sharing and turn-taking, skills that are still developing for young children.

FILL THE BUCKET We encouraged movement and helped children gain a greater understanding of quantity by transferring sand from one container to another. As one container is filled and another emptied, children learn about more and less, weight and capacity.

MONOCHROMATIC ART Children explore tints and shades in colors as they use monochromatic supplies to create art. Today, we did this by creating collages using only one color. Children use their hands and fingers to manipulate the art supplies, while also learning to identify and differentiate slight similarities and differences in colors. Exploring colors and art is part of the Visual and Creative Arts element in our World at Their Fingertips curriculum, but also invites exploration of language, science, and math

EXPLORING LIGHT & PRISM Children explored refracted light by observing light shown through a prism. As we created rainbows on the floor and walls, the children noticed the colors and movement of the light. This encouraged children to try to "catch" the light and sparked conversations about light, color, and shadow.
