What in the World Happened Today Health and Wellness, STEM, Thinking and Learning Loose parts are open-ended materials that give children endless opportunities to explore⁠. Today, children played with these materials of different colors and trays to design on⁠.⁠. Loose parts play encourages imaginative thinking, problem-solving, as well as skills such as hand-eye coordination, categorization, and more⁠. Language and Literacy, Social and Emotional, Visual and Creative Arts Puppets encourage dramatic play, language development, and help with hand and finger coordination⁠. Playing alongside your child with a puppet can enhance language development, model emotional strategies, and provide security in learning daily routines⁠. Try using a puppet or even a sock on your hand during your child's routine at home⁠. Language and Literacy, Social and Emotional, Visual and Creative Arts Young children gain information about the world through sensory exploration⁠. We provide a variety of textures and materials for children to explore with pipe cleaners⁠. We extend this experience by creating shapes and patterns with the pipe cleaners⁠.

What in the World Happened Today Health and Wellness, STEM We use our whole bodies to explore and interact with the world around us by exploring with bubbles and use positional vocabulary to describe bubbles floating up, down, above, and below⁠. Creating movement activities around children’s interest increases their participation in gross motor activities that strengthen their large muscles⁠. STEM, Thinking and Learning Using rings as loose parts, children were invited to explore, stack, hang, and more⁠. As children explore open-ended materials we describe materials to build vocabularies, explore spatial relationships as they investigate how object fit together, and build hand-eye coordination as they manipulate items purposefully⁠.
