Throughout the day, we engage in conversations with children as they do activities. Hearing direct language directed toward them helps young children make the brain connections needed to develop their own language skills. Today we had conversations while transitioning to outside time.

Today, children engaged in a hands-on experiment as they practiced differentiating between hot and cold. We discussed weather and season changes, explored the different temperatures of water, and categorized clothes for hot and cold weather.

Young children learn to problem slove by completing puzzles. Playing with puzzles support cognitive development as children use their spatial skills and memory to match each piece. When children keep trying to make something happen, they build their reslove to accomplish a goal. Working with puzzles provides opportunities to experiment with how things fit together, solve problems, and practice hand-eye coordination.

This week we are practicing clean-up skills by involving children in helpful routines both as clean-up is needed throughout the day and during play in our learning centers, like dramatic play. When children are engaged in clean-up, they not only learn self-help skills, but it makes it easier for everyone and helps children learn inhibitory control. What ways can your child help with clean-up at home?
